Concrete is a fairlyinexpensive, strong, and durable material to use for various construction. However, it has been shown that by adding Graphene Oxide Nanoparticles (GONPs) into the concrete mix, it is possible to improve its physical properties and durability. GONPs can be manufactured in various methods, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), Exfoliation (Mechanical or Electrochemical), or Hummers' method. The dispersal of the NPs is also very important to the end physical properties of the dried concrete. Homogenous dispersal can be achieved by High Shear Mixing, Ultrasonication, Surfactant- Assisted Mixing, or Ball Milling. By adding 0.03% by weight of GO to the concrete mix, the compressive strength and the tensile strength both increased by 40% and the total porosity decreased by 13.5%. However, this led to a decrease in the workability by 34.6%. Additionally, this new form of concrete generates overall fewer carbon emissions. Although currently, this new form of concrete is significantly more expensive compared to conventional concrete, it has a longer lifetime and pays back in the long run.</p> <p>Keywords: Concrete; Nanomaterials; Nanoparticles; Graphene; Graphene Oxide; Paper; Journal; Liaison Journal of Engineering; International University Liaison Indonesia;</p> </div> </div> </div> nathanael davidson matthew darrell kurniawan johannes aria pradana Copyright (c) 2024 Liaison Journal of Engineering 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 3 2 1 12 Nanorobots in Targeted Drug Delivery System – A General Review https://ojs.iuli.ac.id/index.php/eng/article/view/96 <div class="page" title="Page 1"> <div class="layoutArea"> <div class="column"> <p>A targeted drug delivery system is a method for accurately administering the drug component to a targeted area of the body (such as an organ, cellular level, or subcellular level of a specific tissue), with the goal of avoiding the non-specific adverse effects linked to conventional drug delivery [1]. The presence of targeted drug delivery systems allows the reduction of cytotoxic drugs overall toxicity, reducing side effects, while improving the efficacy and selectivity of the drugs [2]. This strategy eventually leads to a decrease in the amount of medication required to achieve therapeutic efficacy. This method is especially beneficial in the treatment of several diseases, such as cancer, because unlike chemotherapy that often results in the death of all rapidly proliferating cells in order to eradicate tumor or cancerous cells, the majority of targeted therapy approaches work to treat cancer by disrupting particular proteins that aid in the growth and metastasis of tumors in the body [3]. This in turn improves therapy effectiveness and decreases undesirable side effects. Side effects occur as a result of cancer treatment including pain, fatigue, anemia, and hair, skin, and nail problems [4].</p> <p>The field of study of nanorobotics is an emerging field of study with a revolutionary potential in various areas, including biomedicine [5]. The application of nanorobots in targeted drug delivery systems, especially as therapeutic agents carriers aids in the succession of targeted drug delivery systems. This journal discusses the topic of nanorobots in the Targeted Drug Delivery System, spotlighting its fabrication, applications, limitations, and future direction. In addition, general knowledge regarding nanorobots profile is fundamental in the comprehension of its applications, hence the provision of sections ‘Nanorobots profile’.</p> <p>Keywords: Targeted drug delivery, Nanorobots, Propulsion Type, Pharmaceutical drugs, Top-down and bottom-up approaches, Precision control, Biologics, Biocompatibility, Scalability</p> </div> </div> </div> nazhifah mishbahurroyan1 noor faadhilah rizki winarno sandy ikbar nafis yosafat valdino niken listyorini Copyright (c) 2024 Liaison Journal of Engineering 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 3 2 13 27 Speciation of Uranyl Compound at Different pH and Its Precipitation Characteristics in Nitric Acid https://ojs.iuli.ac.id/index.php/eng/article/view/97 <div class="page" title="Page 1"> <div class="layoutArea"> <div class="column"> <p>Uranyl is one of the most common chemical compounds that can be found in the waste of nuclear plants. Due to its spice and herbs ingredients, this Betawinese traditional drink potentially has health benefits. However, as one of the non-objects of Indonesian cultural heritage, this beverage needs to be preserved its existence. Thus, this research aims to determine the optimal formulation of Bir Pletok based on consumer behavior and preference market assessment following consumer acceptance and quality (sensory, microbiology, and antioxidant activity). The market assessment, done through online questionnaires among DKI Jakarta residents, revealed that respondents who prefer Bir Pletok with coffee and prefer to drink traditional drinks that are easy to consume comprised the highest percentage. The percentage of DPPH inhibition of selected treatment 3 (T3) (8.1% ginger, 0.2% vanilla, and 6.2% coffee) was significantly higher, and the IC50 was significantly lower than the control. These results imply that T3 had a higher antioxidant activity than the control. Both control and T3 met the requirements of the total number of microbes and yeast molds referring to SNI regarding herbs and spices. In addition, the pH value results show that Bir Pletok averaged below the value of around 5.0.</p> <p>Keywords: Antioxidant activity, Bir Pletok, Consumer Behavior and Perceptions, DPPH, Sensory Analysis, Total Plate Count.</p> </div> </div> </div> glorya pricilia hendry noer fadhillah tina nurkhoeriyati Copyright (c) 2024 Liaison Journal of Engineering 2023-12-29 2023-12-29 3 2 55 62 Reviewing Materials Modification Techniques to Enhance the Durability of Surgical Scissors https://ojs.iuli.ac.id/index.php/eng/article/view/109 <div class="page" title="Page 1"> <div class="layoutArea"> <div class="column"> <p>Around 22-33% of medical waste is contributed to the disposal of surgical tools. With over 310 million surgeries carried out annually, the burden of surgical tool waste becomes critical in terms of cost and effort in approaching zero net waste. Among the most common surgical waste is surgical scissors, often disposed of due to corroded surface, fracture, or loss of functionality. Since surgical scissors play such a major role in dissecting various organs, the reduced quality results in bleeding, uneven cutting, and contusion and enhances the risk of site infection. One way to reduce the amount of surgical waste is by enhancing durability achieved by applying surface modifications, such as coating. This paper reviews three surface modification approaches for surgical scissors coating, namely (1) anodized coating, (2) thin metallic glasses, and (3) chemical vapor deposition. Some experimental data from the reported studies were summarized to assess the potential methods to enhance surgical scissors' durability and reduce medical waste.</p> <p>Keywords: surgical scissors; durability; medical waste; CVD, thin metallic glasses.
